Whenever I hear that there is a hot new eatery I'm always intrigued. When I heard about Burger & Lobster (B&L) I was excited but also quite skeptical to be honest, I mean they have three main menu items, which to my knowledge is unheard of locally. This spurred me to have an Inside Look in order to get to know the people behind the eatery and find out more about this whole concept.

I sat down with Paolo Carrara, one of the three partners behind Burger & Lobster, to have a chat. I had no idea what to expect prior to meeting him but I was pleasantly surprised to find that he is a charming and delightful person. One of the first things that struck me about him is the palpable passion he has for what he does. Him and his partners' experience in the restaurant business means that they understand what it takes to make a business work but you can immediately tell that they have also hit the spot with that extra x-factor which will make Burger & Lobster a favourite for years to come.
The inspiration for Burger & Lobster Cape Town is taken from the international concept. However they have localized it and made it their own. A meticulous attention to detail is glaringly evident from the lobster mural adoring the wall down to the branded serviettes it's easy to tell that there has been a lot of thought put into making B&L come to life. I was dying of curiosity when it comes to the three menu items; it's simple what you see is what you get, but Paolo makes it clear that they push for perfection and consistency every single time. When I asked about the risk of opening another run-of-the-mill burger joint in Cape Town which is already brimming with options, I loved the honest response. "We're not reinventing the wheel, we're just upping the game."

He certainly hit the nail on the head. I got to experience it first hand and I can honestly say that it did not disappoint. The decadence of the beautifully buttery lobster roll is balanced by the refreshing house salad, throw in the tasty and gooey burger and you have a winner. If that isn't enough for you they even have cocktails designed to complement their food. Paolo's personal favourite is their signature drink; a modern twist on the Old Fashioned.
Three partners, three menu items and one great idea that's been well executed means I'm sold on Burger & Lobster. If you don't believe it, try it out for yourself.
