When I heard that a new craft beer was launching in Cape Town my first thought was, "another one?" Then I heard that Freshly comes with a side of self worth, I was so thoroughly intrigued that I had to find out more.

On a gorgeous summer afternoon I met up with the men behind the Freshly magic to get more insight. Jonah & Evan are just as cool and refreshing as their beer. Their backgrounds are not in beer making, which they are quick to point out. Jonah is the co-owner of the popular Inside & You're Out Burger Bar in Bree Street and Evan crossed over from a marketing background. Freshly started as a simple idea to make a delicious beer. Jonah & Evan quickly figured out that while they may be good at drinking beer, making it is a job best left to experts so they collaborated with brewing masters from Paarl. They wanted to go beyond making a good beer, they wanted to bring in the human element and make an uplifting brand.
The result; an easy drinking lager that has lovely hints of passion fruit and pomegranate that comes with a side of self worth. This means you have to compliment yourself while drinking it (well not really, but it certainly doesn't hurt). What it actually means is that drinking Freshly should be a positive experience, it's about focusing on the good when you have it. Even after a long day, grabbing a Freshly and reflecting on the few good parts of the day is bound to uplift your spirits. Beyond the drinking experience the brand aims to uplift: starting with showcasing budding artists at their beach themed launch events. When it comes to the marketing of the brand they've taken the approach that, "it's not about advertising, it's about people."
I was dying to know if they weren't afraid of just being another craft beer in the already competitive market. Their response was that they realize that there is competition but it actually pushes them to be better and produce better content.
Freshly is accessible but unique. What does that even mean? It means you can languidly sip one on a summer afternoon, pair it with a refreshing summer salad or even opt for a classic cheeseburger to go with it. Fresh. Definitive. Offbeat. Three words to describe Freshly but if you want to know what it tastes like, open a bottle.

Freshly is available at The No Name Bar - Seapoint, Union Bar, IYO - Bree Street.
