Café Caprice is synonymous with beautiful people, potent cocktails and having a fabulous time. They brought all of this and a whole lot more with their Brooklyn themed Brunch. Caprice has created this series of themed monthly brunches which runs until September. The idea is to bring international style cuisine crafted by hot local chefs to showcase their incredible talents and bring the world to Cape Town. The Brooklyn Brunch menu was crafted by Jarryd and Ariel Segal who are the brothers behind the popular eatery, Jarryd's in Seapoint.

When I heard the theme was Brooklyn I was excited but also curious. Could the beach chic Caprice bring the trademark Brooklyn edge to life? They did so brilliantly from the street art adorning the walls to the hip hop tunes bumping throughout, it was a perfect balance of ultra-trendy downtown Brooklyn with authentic Caprice.

Most importantly though what does a Brooklyn theme mean for the food? Think quintessential breakfast food with a twist. On the menu there was something to please everybody from the delightfully healthy organic bircher muesli to a classic Salmon and Cream Cheese bagel spiced up with candied lemon zest which brought a refreshing edge. My personal favourite was the miniature bunny chows with spicy beef mince, fresh tomato & coriander salsa, sour cream topped with a soft poached egg. If that didn't tickle your taste buds there were a plethora of other dishes that came out like the frittata with feta, Spanish chorizo, sambal olek, roasted cherry tomatoes and the spiced baked eggs with naan dippers.

The showstopper was the rainbow bagel with vanilla whipped mascarpone, fresh berries and maple syrup. The colourful confection was wasn't overly sweet thankfully and the fresh filling made it taste like a delightful piece of bagel heaven in my mouth.

Someone once said that brunch without champagne is just a sad long lunch. Who needs champagne though when there are Absolut cocktails? True to the name the Absolut Brunch Club had a selection of cocktails which perfectly complimented the delectable menu.

It was the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon and with the next brunch being themed Wimbledon I can't wait to put on my tennis whites and see what they have in store!
