Favorite Places: Tashas Constantia

I can never decide when people ask me to name my absolute favorite eatery. I won't compare it to choosing my favorite child because that seems a tad dramatic. It's more like trying to decide on your favorite outfit, there are simply too many options so it comes down to a particular choice for a particular occasion. In this spirit I decided to compile an ongoing list of my (and other peoples) favorite places.
Tashas should be on everyone's favorite places list. I don't remember the first time I went because it was so long ago, however I've been back so often that even the waiters ask how university is going for me. What is so delightful about each Tashas is that it has a standard menu and then an additional menu crafted especially to suit the theme for the branch. I normally frequent the Tashas at the V & A Waterfront, which is inspired by Spain and has the most delightful range of tapas. I always leap straight for the fried squid heads (which are heavenly) and their hake bites.
What I call the 'secret' Tashas in Cape Town is the Tashas Constantia, which is part of what makes it on to my favorite places list. You don't go there to see (and be seen) which is what the Waterfront branch feels like at times. It is about simply delicious food and has a sophisticated yet somehow laid-back atmosphere. The best part about the Constantia branch is not the French inspired menu but the Waffle House. The waffles alone are worth the drive all the way to the Southern Suburbs, in one word they are sinful.
So one day if you are craving great waffles, are in the area or are simply curious about the 'secret' Tashas then head over to Constantia Village and try it out!
